At Scott Mazda, we don’t just want to help you get behind the wheel of a wonderful new Mazda car, we are a trusted source to help you make the most out of your Mazda driving experience. This means providing quality Mazda maintenance and repairs at our Allentown Mazda dealership, giving you tips on how to keep your Mazda in good shape, and equipping you to drive well all year round. In Pennsylvania, we experience the typical east coast winters that can make driving hazardous, so it’s important to know the best practices for winter driving.

Driving in the Winter

Winter weather conditions such as snow, sleet, and frost can make the roads lose traction, making for tricky driving conditions. If there is ice on the road, driving just shouldn’t be happening at all. The most important thing to remember is to take it slow. This means significantly reducing your normal speeds, taking corners slowly, and giving plenty of time for gentle starts and stops.

Your gas tank should also be kept at least half full to avoid gas line freeze up. In addition, the reduced gas mileage you will experience will be a good reason to never leave your home with less than half a tank in winter weather.

If you need to heat up your car before you leave, make sure you don’t do this in an enclosed space like a garage with the door closed since poisonous carbon monoxide can build up.

You should also take your Mazda vehicle to our service center where we will ensure your Mazda vehicle has the right fluid levels, your tires are in good condition, and that your Mazda is in the right shape to keep running smoothly during the winter. Head over to our Mazda dealership to make sure you are ready for winter driving.
