Are you interested in a new Mazda vehicle that’s equal parts stylish, versatile, well-equipped, and roomy? If so, we encourage you to check out the Mazda SUV models in our new car inventory. As you look over the vehicles on our lot, you may wonder how some of them compare to their competitors. One comparison motorists ask us about is the 2020 Mazda CX-9 vs the 2020 Acura MDX.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the new Mazda CX-9 is classified as a midsize SUV while the Acura MDX is considered a midsize luxury SUV. When outfitted with certain headlights, the 2019 Mazda CX-9 earned the rating of Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS for its performance in crash tests. Earning that score meant the 2019 Mazda CX-9 was one of the safest vehicles in its class, and there’s no reason to think the 2020 Mazda CX-9 will be any different. The IIHS has not tested 2020 models yet.

Like its rival, the Mazda CX-9 is offered in four trims for the 2020 model-year. The Mazda CX-9 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 310 lb-ft of torque. By contrast, the gas-only Acura MDX is motivated by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 267 lb-ft of torque. That’s means the 2020 Mazda CX-9 gets more torque for less horsepower.

When you visit our Mazda dealership near Easton, PA, we’ll tell you that the 2020 Mazda CX-9 and the new Acura MDX are equipped with some sought-after advanced safety features across their respective trims. Both vehicles have a forward collision warning and intervention system, for example. A blind-spot monitor is also standard on the Mazda SUV’s base trim, but you’ll have to step up to a higher trim to get that same feature on the Acura MDX.
