The new Mazda3 is available in two body styles: sedan and hatchback. Both body styles earned Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when outfitted appropriately, which means they’re among the safest vehicles in their class. However, each model possesses its own unique differences.
Cargo Space
While the Mazda3 Sedan and its hatchback sibling share the same safety score from the IIHS, they differ from one another in key ways. For example, the Mazda3 Hatchback has more cargo room than the sedan. More specifically, the hatchback has 20.1 cubic feet of cargo space, while the sedan only has 13.2 cubic feet.
Packages
The Mazda3 Sedan and the Mazda3 Hatchback also have different trims and packages as well. The Mazda3 Sedan is offered in the following four packages: Base, Select, Preferred, and Premium. If you prefer the hatchback, you’ll have three trims to choose from: Base, Preferred, and Premium.
